Recently I had some unknown problems with my truck. Naturally, I took it to the shop so they could hopefully find what the problem was. Well, it turns out that it was quite an expensive problem. Little did I know, it wasn’t entirely fixed. When my truck started acting up again, I got a little worried. I took it back to the shop and they replaced a few more parts. This expensive problem had gotten more expensive. Through all of this though, God taught me a very important lesson. This lesson was well worth the troubles.
A few days after I got my truck back, I was looking at the bill and what I had in my bank account. I thought the next couple months might be very tight, but I’d make it. Later that day it hit me, like a wave crashing onto the shore, God is using this moment to teach me something. No matter how hard things might get, God will always be there. It will work out one way or another. I felt at peace that afternoon and couldn’t complain about anything. I knew God was teaching me this and I was ready to learn.
Sometimes we stress about things in this life, but it always seems to make the outcome worse. We put all of our focus into this temporary life and forget about our eternal life. We tend to stress about fleeting things like our finances, our jobs, or even that dinner date we planned six months in advance. I started realizing that other people have gone through the same stressful situation I am going through now and they came out fine. It’s not the end of the world. We seem to worry so much that we forget to enjoy the moments and be thankful for what we do have. Everything we have in this life is a gift. When we start looking at things this way, we stress less and enjoy them more. When I stopped looking at my truck as a problem and more as a gift, I found joy in the situation.
After digging into the subject God had laid before me, I started learning more and more. I looked back and saw how God has always provided in the tough times. I saw how He never left me in the dark alone. I am sure there were a few times He thought, “Josh, why are you worried about this? This is a walk in the park, enjoy it.” We seem to get distracted by the little details a lot and forget we live in the universe created by the God we can trust. He holds everything in His hands and looks out for His Children. We can trust our Father in Heaven will guide us through.
I think God puts us into difficult situations a lot. He does this not to spite us, but to teach us. He does this to make us more like Him. Through all of this, I came up with a phrase to say when I am worried or stressed about something, “Will it affect my salvation?” The answer is always no. No matter what happens in this situation, I know that my future is secure in heaven. No matter what others may think, what God thinks is the only thing that will matter. So when faced with a difficult situation, let go, trust in God, and enjoy the ride.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5
