The world was waiting for the promised gift from God, a gift that would change the world permanently. This gift is wrapped in love. Love that is so ridiculously scandalous that it would save us all. This is the greatest gift. This is Jesus. I am sure it was a very quiet night. Heaven was filled with anticipation, and the angels were on the edge of their seats, waiting, watching to see how it would all go down. Born in a manger, wrapped in swaddles clothes, God gave us the best gift we could ever receive. Our King, giving up His heavenly throne, came to earth and lived an extraordinary life in an ordinary body. Flesh and bones, He came to save us. He came to set us free from our bondage of sin. He came to die for us.
How many gifts have you received that come close to the one God has given us? I am sure all of your gifts combined don’t even come close to this gift. A gift of eternal communion with God? This is incredible that God wants us to be with Him forever. We have been given this amazing gift. It is sitting there for our taking. God is standing there with His arms stretched out waiting for you to take it. The question is, how will you respond? Will you take the best gift that you could ever receive in your entire life, or settle for something less? Will you take this free gift of salvation, knowing God only asks for your heart in return? Life takes our heart anyway; why not give it to love. Why not spend eternity with our loving, gracious father? Why would you ever settle for second best when the best is being offered to you?
I want to encourage you this Christmas to unwrap this gift. Whether it has never been opened or you open it daily, unwrap the gift God gave you. This precious gift may sit under your tree every year. You may see it and think you don’t need it or want it. You have convinced yourself it is an illusion, but I promise you it is real. I promise you it is incredible. I promise you it will be the best gift you unwrap in your entire life. The joy that a gift brings you is multiplied by infinity when you unwrapped the gift of God. As the angels were sitting with anticipation and wonder, do the same with this gift. If you open this gift every day, don’t forget the Joy and Love that this gift holds. Its unconditional grace is beyond our comprehension. The love is like an ocean; you can’t see where it stops. The joy it brings is greater than a million shooting stars. Open this gift remembering what it truly is. Open this gift from your Heavenly Father. Open the gift that says, “To: You, From: Your Father” that has the best thing ever inside. Merry Christmas and may the Joy of God fill you this year!
